James S. Furash
Chief Executive Officer, AmeriHome Mortgage Company
Mr. Furash is the CEO of AmeriHome Mortgage Company and is a seasoned financial services executive with over 25 years banking, mortgage banking and financial services experience. He has worked extensively in commercial banking in all areas including retail banking (mortgage lending and branch management), risk management, commercial lending and capital markets and served as CEO of the 11th largest commercial bank in the country.
Prior to AmeriHome Mortgage, Jim was an industry consultant and advisor to Private Equity firms and Commercial Banks. In this capacity Mr. Furash advised clients in the pursuit of investments in the financial services sector with a focus on retail and mortgage banking both domestically and internationally.
Mr. Furash also helped found PennyMac Capital Management and was its Chief Development Officer. PennyMac is a joint venture between Blackrock, Inc. and Highfields Capital Management LP. At PennyMac, Jim built the mortgage asset acquisition function, bid on $50 billion of distressed residential mortgage assets, and oversaw the acquisition of $800 million of mortgage product.
Mr. Furash co-founded and led Countrywide Bank, N.A (now a unit of Bank of America Corporation) as President and Chief Executive Officer from 2001 to early 2007 immediately prior to the bank’s conversion from an OCC and FRB regulated entity to an OTS savings bank. During this time, Mr. Furash led the growth of the Bank to just under $100 billion, making it one of largest commercial banks in the country. He drove the development of the Bank’s distinctive consumer business model that used a low-overhead platform to deliver superior value to customers and shareholders. Under Mr. Furash’s leadership, the Bank amassed approximately 750,000 deposit and loan customers, built over 100 deposit production offices, created a franchise that was responsible for a third of Countrywide’s pretax income, and became the eleventh largest national bank in the United States.
Additionally, Mr. Furash co-founded Monument Financial Group, LLC, and headed the acquisition and strategic advisory practices of the firm, where he worked with large financial services companies to develop and implement various banking strategies. Prior to founding his own company, he was involved in all aspects of the financial services industry, including commercial lending, capital markets, consumer lending and retail banking at SunTrust Bank, N.A., National Bank of Washington, and Mercer Management Consulting.
Mr. Furash received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the University of Virginia and his Masters in Business Administration, with a dual concentration in finance and marketing, from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
